What is PPGL?

Prepainted Galvalume steel (PPGL) — also known as prepainted Aluzinc steel — is a Galvalume substrate that has been cleaned, chemically treated, primed, and coated with an organic paint system before fabrication.

The substrate is what sets PPGL apart. Instead of a zinc-only coating, PPGL uses a metallic coating made of 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon. The aluminum content forms a stable, protective barrier layer, while the zinc provides sacrificial protection at cut edges and scratches. Together, this combination generally delivers longer corrosion protection than standard galvanized steel in outdoor and high-humidity conditions.

Like PPGI, PPGL arrives pre-finished — removing the need for secondary painting at your facility. The difference is durability: PPGL is the substrate you specify when the finished product needs to withstand the weather over the long term.

PPGL is most commonly specified for roofing sheets, wall cladding, sandwich panels, garage doors, and exterior decorative panels.

PPGI vs PPGL: Which Should You Choose?

Both are prepainted steel products with the same paint systems available. The difference is the metallic substrate beneath the paint.

  • Choose PPGI when cost and general performance are balanced. Choose PPGL when long-term outdoor corrosion resistance is the priority.

Why Buyers Source PPGL from Everesteel

Corrosion Resistance Matched to Your Environment

The Galvalume substrate combines aluminum's barrier protection with zinc's sacrificial edge protection, outperforming zinc-only steel in humid, coastal, and industrial exposure. Because we run our own coating lines, we match AZ coating weight (AZ30–AZ150) and paint system to your actual site conditions — not a single generic grade for every climate. For coastal or high-corrosion projects, we recommend AZ150 with a durable topcoat and confirm the spec before quotation.

Heat Reflectivity and Weather Durability

The aluminum-rich surface reflects more solar heat than galvanized steel, helping keep buildings cooler and reducing thermal stress on the coating. Paired with an HDP or PVDF paint system, PPGL holds color and gloss far longer under UV exposure. We measure gloss and color against approved reference standards on every batch, so your roofing and cladding stays visually consistent across large projects and repeat orders.

Longer Service Life in Harsh Conditions

Where standard galvanized panels begin to show corrosion, a correctly specified Galvalume substrate keeps performing. This translates into fewer callbacks, longer warranties, and lower lifecycle cost for your finished product. Our QC process — salt spray, T-bend, impact, and adhesion testing — verifies that the coating will hold up in the field, not just on paper.

Custom Finishes for Roofing and Cladding Systems

Durability does not mean limited choices. We produce standard RAL and Pantone colors, custom-matched shades for brand or project palettes, and decorative options including wood grain, stone effect, and textured finishes — all on the same coating lines. You receive a lab drawdown and production sample for approval before mass production, with one supplier accountable for the match.

Surface and Pattern Options

PPGL is available across a broad range of surface effects, weighted toward roofing, cladding, and architectural exterior use.

Stacked solid color PPGL roofing sheets

Solid Colors

Uniform single-tone finishes in white, grey, blue, red, green, and custom RAL/Pantone references. The standard choice for roofing sheets, wall cladding, and building envelopes.

Matte grey PPGL facade cladding panel

Matte / Low Gloss

Flat finish with reduced reflection — increasingly specified for modern facade and architectural cladding projects where a low-sheen look is preferred.

Glossy reflective PPGL steel panel

High Gloss

Higher reflectivity for decorative panels and applications where a bright, clean surface is required.

Textured wrinkle finish PPGL shutter panel

Wrinkle / Texture Finish

Structured surface that improves scratch resistance and hides minor handling marks — well suited to garage doors, shutters, and utility panels.

Wood grain printed PPGL cladding panel

Wood Grain Print

Photorealistic timber patterns for exterior and interior decorative cladding, replacing natural veneer with a weather-resistant alternative.

Stone effect printed PPGL facade panel

Stone / Marble Effect Print

Decorative stone-effect surfaces for feature facades, entrance cladding, and commercial fit-out projects.

Anti fingerprint coated PPGL steel panel

Anti-Fingerprint Coating

Topcoat formulation that resists surface smudging — specified for high-touch panels and premium exterior fixtures.

Processing Capabilities

Downstream processing is available in-house, so your PPGL can arrive in the format your roofing line, panel plant, or door workshop actually needs — not just as master coil.

1

Slitting

Coils are slit to custom widths from 20 mm and above, with tight tolerances and clean edges suited to roll-forming roofing profiles and panel systems.

2

Cut-to-Length

Sheet blanks cut to your dimensions with flatness and squareness tolerances suitable for direct press or panel-forming feeding.

3

Embossing

Structural or decorative emboss patterns applied in-line, including linen, stucco, and custom profiles. Embossing adds rigidity and hides minor surface handling marks — useful for cladding and door panels.

4

Lamination

Protective or decorative films applied over the coated surface for transit protection, added scratch resistance, or a specific decorative effect on exterior panels.

Custom Color Matching

Submit a physical sample, RAL code, or Pantone reference, and our technical team formulates a matched batch — with a lab drawdown and production sample provided for approval before the full run begins.

FAQs

PPGI uses a galvanized (zinc-only) substrate, while PPGL uses a Galvalume substrate made of 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon. PPGL generally offers stronger corrosion resistance in outdoor, humid, and coastal environments, along with better heat reflectivity. PPGI is more economical and well suited to interior and general-use applications. For roofing and cladding exposed to weather, PPGL is usually the better long-term choice.

It depends on your environment and target service life. AZ60–AZ100 suits general and moderately exposed applications. For coastal, industrial, or high-corrosion environments — and for projects requiring longer warranties — we recommend AZ150. Our technical team can advise based on your site conditions and project standard.

For roofing, cladding, and exterior panels in high-UV or coastal areas, we recommend PVDF or HDP systems for long-term color retention and weather resistance. PE and SMP are suitable for shorter-life or less-exposed exterior applications and for cost-sensitive projects.

Yes. The aluminum content in the Galvalume substrate forms a stable barrier that performs well against salt-laden coastal air, while the zinc provides sacrificial edge protection. For coastal projects, we typically recommend AZ150 combined with a PVDF topcoat and confirm the full specification before quotation.

Our standard minimum order quantity is 5 tons per specification. For custom colors or non-standard dimensions, we recommend 5–10 tons to cover setup and color formulation costs. Contact us to discuss your project volume.

Yes. Submit a physical sample, RAL code, or Pantone reference, and we produce a lab drawdown for review. Once you approve the color and specification in writing, we schedule mass production. Sample production typically takes 5–10 working days.

Standard lead time is 15–25 days from order confirmation and deposit receipt. Custom colors requiring new paint formulation may add 7–10 days for approval. Expedited scheduling may be available depending on production capacity at the time of order.

Yes. We operate slitting and cut-to-length lines on-site and can supply PPGL as master coil, slit coil, or cut-to-length sheet to your specified dimensions. Sheets are stacked, interleaved with protective paper where required, and packaged for export.
