What Is Whiteboard & Chalkboard Steel?
Whiteboard and chalkboard steel is a family of prefinished, magnetic steel products engineered as writing surfaces. Each variant starts with a steel substrate that is cleaned, pretreated, primed, and coated with a specialized functional topcoat before fabrication — so the material arrives ready to slit, cut, laminate, and frame into finished boards.
Because the base is steel, every finished board surface is magnetic. In most standard constructions, this removes the need for a separate magnetic layer, simplifying panel build-up for board manufacturers.
This category covers three closely related products:
- Whiteboard Steel — a high-hardness dry-erase resin surface for marker writing and clean erasing.
- Chalkboard Steel — a matte, chalk-receptive surface for traditional chalk and liquid chalk markers.
- Gridline Board Steel — a dry-erase surface with a permanent grid, dot, line, or calendar pattern sealed beneath the topcoat.
The right product depends on your writing tool, surface finish, and whether the board needs a built-in visual guide. All three are supplied in coil or cut-to-length sheet form.

Why Choose Everesteel Whiteboard & Chalkboard Steel
Direct from the Manufacturer — No Intermediary
Every coil is produced at Everesteel's own factory in Jiangyin, Jiangsu, on our own coating and printing lines. You are not buying from a trading company. That means direct control over your surface specification, direct accountability for quality, and no middleman margin.
Consistent Surface Quality Across Batches
Batch-to-batch variation in gloss, dry-erase performance, matte level, or grid registration is a common sourcing headache. We monitor coating thickness, surface hardness, gloss, and print alignment per batch, which makes repeat orders straightforward to standardize.
Full Custom Specification Support
We do not work catalog-only. Non-standard thickness, custom coil widths, semi-gloss variants, custom RAL colors, and bespoke grid artwork are all reviewed with our technical team before production begins.
In-House Processing
Slitting, cut-to-length, tension leveling, protective film application, and custom printing are all carried out at our Jiangyin facility. Material arrives in the exact format your board line needs.
Accessories Supply and Consolidation
Aluminum frames, ABS corners, lamination adhesive, and aluminum pen trays can ship in the same order — reducing logistics complexity and total lead time for board manufacturers.
Direct Export Supply to 65+ Countries
Everesteel supplies board fabricators across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the Americas, with a 98.7% on-time delivery rate and seaworthy export packaging on every order.

Applications by Industry
Processing Capabilities
Downstream processing is available in-house — orders can be delivered in the format your board line requires, not just as a master coil.
Slitting
Coils are slit to custom widths from 20 mm and above, with tight tolerances and clean edges that minimize offcuts during board framing.
Cut-to-Length
Sheet blanks cut to your board dimensions with flatness and squareness tolerances suitable for direct framing and lamination. Grid alignment to the sheet edge is controlled during cutting.
Protective Film
Clear, blue, or grid-printed (2×2 cm) film is applied to the writing surface to protect it during transit, handling, and fabrication. Grid film also serves as a cutting reference.
Tension Leveling
All board steel is tension leveled for flatness — a critical requirement for framed board fabrication, where bowed steel creates fit and finish issues.
Custom Printing
Grid spacing, dot patterns, ruled lines, calendars, and full custom artwork printed in-line and sealed beneath the topcoat, with a production sample provided for approval.
Accessories Consolidation
Aluminum frames, ABS corners, lamination adhesive, and pen trays supplied in the same shipment, reducing logistics overhead and lead time.

Quality Control and Certifications
Everesteel maintains a documented quality management system across every stage of production — from incoming substrate inspection through to final coil labeling and packaging.
In-process controls include:
- Incoming steel substrate inspection (thickness, coating weight, mechanical properties)
- Coating film thickness measured and recorded per batch
- Surface hardness checked against the 4H (whiteboard/gridline) or ≥5H (chalkboard) specification
- Gloss and color measurement against approved reference standards
- Dry-erase or chalk write-and-erase testing for clean surface recovery
- Print registration and grid-spacing accuracy checks for gridline board steel
- Back coating adhesion tested for lamination suitability
- Protective film coverage and peel inspection
- Tension leveling and final dimensional check prior to packaging
Test reports and material certifications are issued with each shipment. Everesteel holds ISO 9001 certification, and third-party inspection — including SGS, BV, and CCIC — can be arranged on request prior to loading.
Custom Specification Service

FAQs
Q1. What is the difference between whiteboard steel, chalkboard steel, and gridline board steel?
All three are prepainted magnetic steel writing surfaces built on the same core process — the difference is the top surface and the writing tool. Whiteboard steel has a 4H dry-erase resin surface for markers. Chalkboard steel has a ≥5H matte, chalk-receptive surface for chalk and liquid chalk markers. Gridline board steel is a dry-erase surface with a grid, dot, line, or calendar pattern printed and sealed beneath the topcoat. Choose whiteboard for a clean marker surface, chalkboard when the tool is chalk, and gridline when the board needs a built-in layout guide.
Q2. What is the minimum order quantity?
MOQ is 2 tons or 500 sheets per specification for whiteboard and chalkboard steel, and 5 tons for gridline board steel. Orders covering multiple specifications are calculated per line item. Contact our sales team to discuss consolidation for initial trial orders.
Q3. Is the steel substrate magnetic, and does it need a separate magnetic backing?
Yes, the steel substrate provides magnetic receptivity, so no separate magnetic layer is required in most standard board constructions. This is a key advantage over melamine, painted MDF, and many glass writing surfaces, which need an added magnetic component.
Q4. Can you supply custom colors?
Yes. Whiteboard steel is standard in white but available in light grey, cream, or custom RAL references. Chalkboard steel is standard in RAL 9005 black, RAL 6005 green, and RAL 7021 anthracite, with custom RAL matching available. All custom colors are confirmed against a supplied reference before production.
Q5. How does grid printing work, and will the pattern wear off?
The grid, dot, line, or calendar pattern is printed in-line and sealed beneath the clear dry-erase topcoat — you write and erase over the topcoat, so the pattern stays sharp and permanent. Submit your artwork, spacing, or a reference sample, and we provide a printed production sample for written approval before mass production. Custom patterns typically add 7–10 days for setup.
Q6. Can Everesteel supply accessories alongside the steel?
Yes. Aluminum frames, ABS corners, lamination adhesive, and aluminum pen trays can all be supplied and consolidated into the same shipment, reducing logistics complexity and total lead time for board manufacturers.
Q7. What quality documentation is provided with each shipment?
Every shipment includes a mill certificate and test report covering coating thickness, surface hardness, gloss, and adhesion for your specification. Everesteel holds ISO 9001 certification. Third-party pre-shipment inspection by SGS, BV, CCIC, or your nominated inspector can be arranged on request.
Q8. What is the typical lead time?
Standard lead time is 15–25 days from order confirmation and deposit receipt. Custom colors or custom grid printing may add 7–10 days for sample formulation and approval. Expedited scheduling may be available depending on production capacity at the time of order.
