What is PPCR Coil & Sheet?
PPCR coil & sheet — also called prepainted cold-rolled steel or color-coated cold-rolled steel — is made from a cold-rolled steel substrate that has been cleaned, chemically pretreated, primed, and coated with an organic paint system before fabrication.
The difference is in the base metal. PPGI and PPGL carry a zinc or aluminum-zinc metallic coating under the paint to resist corrosion in wet or outdoor conditions. PPCR skips that metallic layer entirely. The paint system sits directly on a pretreated cold-rolled steel base, giving you a very smooth, flat surface at a lower material cost.
That trade-off is deliberate. PPCR is not made for weather exposure — it is made for interior and enclosed applications where corrosion risk is low and where flatness, appearance, and cost efficiency matter more than long-term outdoor durability.
Like other prepainted materials, PPCR arrives ready to use, so there’s no secondary painting at your facility. PPCR is most commonly specified for appliance inner components, interior panels, furniture parts, and dry-environment enclosures.
PPCR vs PPGI / PPGL / PPAL: Which Should You Choose?
Both are prepainted steel products with the same paint systems available. The difference is the metallic substrate beneath the paint.
| Factor | PPCR | PPGI | PPGL | PPAL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Substrate | Cold-rolled steel (no coating) | Galvanized steel (zinc) | Galvalume steel (Al-Zn) | Aluminum alloy |
| Corrosion resistance | Low — interior use only | Standard | Superior in outdoor/humid use | Excellent, no coating needed |
| Surface flatness | Very smooth and flat | Good | Good | Good |
| Best environment | Dry, indoor, enclosed | Indoor, general use | Coastal, humid, industrial | Weight-sensitive, architectural |
| Cost level | Most economical | Economical | Premium | Premium |
| Typical use | Appliance inner parts, interior panels | Appliances, panels | Roofing, cladding | Ceilings, facades, signage |
- Choose PPCR when the application is dry and indoors, and you want the smoothest surface at the lowest cost. Step up to PPGI, PPGL, or PPAL when corrosion resistance or outdoor performance becomes a real requirement.
Why Buyers Source PPCR from Everesteel
The Lowest-Cost Prepainted Steel for the Right Application
By skipping the metallic coating, PPCR removes a real cost driver from your material bill. For dry interior and enclosed applications, that zinc or aluminum-zinc layer adds expense you don't need. Because we coat on our own lines, we help you confirm that PPCR is genuinely the right fit for your environment — and where it is, you get a pre-finished steel surface at a noticeably lower cost per ton than galvanized alternatives.
A Smooth, Flat Surface Built for Visible Interior Work
Cold-rolled steel gives PPCR a very smooth, uniform base, which shows through as a clean painted surface with minimal texture or waviness. That flatness matters for appliance inner panels, furniture facings, and interior components where the finish is seen up close. We measure gloss and color against approved reference standards on every batch, so repeat orders stay visually matched across your production runs.
A Pre-Finished Coil That Removes Your Painting Step
Every PPCR coil leaves our line ready to fabricate — no painting booths, drying ovens, or secondary finishing at your factory. This cuts a full process step out of your line, reduces rework from in-house painting inconsistencies, and speeds up throughput. Our adhesion testing, with cross-cut and T-bend checks, confirms the coating holds through forming and stamping.
Custom Colors and Patterns, Produced In-House
Standard RAL and Pantone colors are held as references, and we formulate custom matches for brand and project palettes directly on our coating lines. Decorative options — including wood grain, matte, and anti-fingerprint finishes — are produced on the same equipment. You receive a lab drawdown and production sample for approval before mass production, with one supplier accountable for the match.

Surface and Pattern Options
PPCR is available across a broad range of surface effects, weighted toward interior, appliance, and enclosed-application use.

Solid Colors
Uniform single-tone finishes in white, grey, black, blue, and custom RAL/Pantone references. The standard choice for appliance inner panels, interior components, and furniture parts.

Matte / Low Gloss
Flat finish with reduced reflection — widely specified for interior panels, office furniture surfaces, and enclosure work where a low-sheen look is preferred.

High Gloss
Higher reflectivity for visible interior panels and decorative components where a bright, clean surface is required.

Wrinkle / Texture Finish
Structured surface that improves scratch resistance and hides minor handling marks — well suited to equipment housings, utility panels, and enclosure covers.

Wood Grain Print
Photorealistic timber patterns for furniture facings, interior wall panels, and cabinet components where a warm look is needed without natural veneer.

Anti-Fingerprint Coating
Topcoat formulation that resists surface smudging — specified for high-touch interior panels and premium appliance surfaces.
Processing Capabilities
Downstream processing is available in-house, so your PPCR coil & sheet can arrive in the format your production line actually needs — not just as a master coil.
Slitting
Coils are slit to custom widths from 20 mm and above, with tight tolerances and clean edges suited to panel forming, appliance part production, and profile lines.
Cut-to-Length
Sheet blanks cut to your dimensions with flatness and squareness tolerances suitable for direct press, stamping, or panel-forming feeding.
Embossing
Structural or decorative emboss patterns applied in-line, including linen, stucco, and custom profiles. Embossing adds rigidity to thin gauges and hides minor surface handling marks.
Lamination
Protective or decorative films applied over the coated surface for transit protection, added scratch resistance, or a specific decorative effect on visible panels.
Custom Color Matching
Submit a physical sample, RAL code, or Pantone reference, and our technical team formulates a matched batch — with a lab drawdown and production sample provided for approval before the full run begins.

FAQs
Q1. What is the difference between PPCR and PPGI?
PPGI uses a galvanized (zinc-coated) steel substrate that resists corrosion in wet and outdoor conditions. PPCR uses a plain cold-rolled steel substrate with no metallic coating, so it costs less but is only suitable for dry, indoor, or enclosed applications. Choose PPCR when corrosion risk is low and you want the smoothest surface at the lowest cost; choose PPGI when the part may be exposed to moisture.
Q2. Can PPCR coil & sheet be used outdoors?
No. PPCR has no zinc or aluminum-zinc coating under the paint, so it offers limited corrosion protection. It is designed for interior, enclosed, and dry-environment use only. For outdoor roofing, cladding, or humid conditions, we recommend PPGI or PPGL instead.
Q3.Why would I choose PPCR over galvanized options?
Cost and surface quality. For appliance inner parts, furniture, and interior panels that never face moisture, the metallic coating in PPGI or PPGL is an added expense you don’t need. PPCR gives you a very smooth, flat, pre-finished steel surface at a lower price per ton for these specific interior applications.
Q4. What is your minimum order quantity for PPCR coil & sheet?
Our standard minimum order quantity is 5 tons per specification. For custom colors or non-standard dimensions, we recommend 5–10 tons to cover setup and color formulation costs. Contact us to discuss your project volume.
Q5. What is the typical lead time for PPCR coil & sheet orders?
Standard lead time is 15–25 days from order confirmation and deposit receipt. Custom colors requiring new paint formulation may add 7–10 days for approval. Expedited scheduling may be available depending on production capacity at the time of order.
Q6. Can you supply custom colors and provide samples before bulk production?
Yes. Submit a physical sample, RAL code, or Pantone reference, and we produce a lab drawdown for review. Once you approve the color and specification in writing, we schedule mass production. Sample production typically takes 5–10 working days.
Q7. Can PPCR coil & sheet be supplied as cut sheet rather than coil?
Yes. We operate slitting and cut-to-length lines on-site and can supply PPCR as master coil, slit coil, or cut-to-length sheet to your specified dimensions. Sheets are stacked, interleaved with protective paper where required, and packaged for export.
Q8. How should I package and store PPCR coil & sheet to prevent corrosion?
Because PPCR has no metallic coating, keep it dry during storage and transit. We provide moisture-protected export packing with edge protection, and we recommend storing coils and sheets in a dry, ventilated indoor space away from condensation. Avoid prolonged exposure to humidity before and after fabrication.
