What Is Whiteboard Steel?
Whiteboard steel is a prefinished galvanized steel product with a dry-erase resin topcoat engineered for repeated writing and clean erasing. The writing surface is typically cured to 4H pencil hardness to support scratch resistance and reduce ghosting under normal whiteboard use.
Because the substrate is steel, the finished board surface is magnetic, eliminating the need for a separate magnetic layer in most standard board constructions. This can simplify panel build-up for manufacturers producing framed whiteboards, presentation boards, and magnetic notice boards.
Everesteel supplies whiteboard steel in two main surface options: High Gloss for standard office and classroom writing boards, and Semi Gloss for projector applications where glare control matters during combined writing and projection use. The reverse side carries an epoxy back coating designed to support lamination to common board cores, such as MDF, honeycomb, or cardboard. It is supplied in coil or cut-to-length sheet form for whiteboard manufacturers and related panel fabricators.

High Gloss vs. Semi Gloss for Projector
Both variants share the same 4H dry-erase resin surface and galvanized steel substrate. The distinction is surface gloss level and its effect on light behavior — which determines which variant is appropriate for your application.
| Feature | High Gloss | Semi Gloss for Projector |
|---|---|---|
| Gloss Level | >75 GU | Reduced gloss — engineered for glare control |
| Primary Use | Office boards, school classroom boards, meeting room panels | Projection-enabled classrooms, training rooms, conference spaces |
| Writing Contrast | Strong visual contrast for marker writing | Good writing contrast with reduced light reflection |
| Projection Performance | Not optimized for projection use | Engineered to reduce hotspot and glare under projector light |
| Dry-Erase Performance | Clean erase, minimal residue | Clean erase, minimal residue |
| Magnetic Receptivity | Yes | Yes |
| Protective Film Options | Clear, blue, or grid-printed (2×2 cm) | Clear, blue, or grid-printed (2×2 cm) |
| Recommended Thickness | 0.3 mm – 0.4 mm | 0.3 mm – 0.4 mm |
If your boards are used exclusively for writing, the High Gloss variant is the standard specification. If your boards are used in rooms where a projector is also in use on the same surface, Semi Gloss for Projector is the appropriate selection.
Why Buyers Source Whiteboard Steel from Everesteel
Consistent Surface Quality Across Batches
One of the most common concerns in sourcing steel writing surfaces is batch-to-batch inconsistency — variation in gloss level, dry-erase performance, or coating adhesion between shipments. Everesteel controls the full production process in-house, from substrate preparation through dry-erase resin application and curing. Gloss level, surface hardness, and coating thickness are monitored per batch, which makes repeat orders straightforward to standardize.
Full Custom Specification Support
Everesteel does not work on a catalog-only basis. If your application calls for a specific thickness, a non-standard coil width, a semi-gloss surface variant, or a custom back coating specification, the technical team reviews the requirement with you before production begins. Grid-printed protective film (2×2 cm) is available as a standard option for manufacturers who use the grid as a fabrication reference.
In-House Processing and Accessories Supply
Slitting, cut-to-length processing, tension leveling, and protective film application are all carried out at our Jiangyin facility. Everesteel can also supply accessories within the same order — including aluminum frames, ABS corners, adhesive suitable for common board lamination, and aluminum pen trays. Consolidating accessories into a single shipment reduces logistics complexity and lead time for whiteboard manufacturers.
Direct Export Supply
Everesteel supplies Whiteboard Steel to buyers across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Export orders are packed in seaworthy packaging suitable for ocean freight, and documentation is prepared to support customs clearance in the destination market.

Surface and Pattern Options

High-Gloss White Whiteboard Steel
The standard configuration. A smooth, high-gloss white dry-erase surface on a galvanized steel substrate, cured to 4H hardness. Suited to office whiteboards, school boards, and meeting room panels. The high-gloss white surface delivers strong writing contrast and supports clean erasing with minimal residue under normal use. Available with clear, blue, or grid-printed protective film.

Semi Gloss for Projector Whiteboard Steel
A white dry-erase surface in a reduced-gloss finish, engineered for environments where the board surface is used for both marker writing and projected image display. The lower gloss level reduces hotspots and surface glare under projector light, while maintaining the dry-erase performance and magnetic receptivity of the standard galvanized steel substrate. Available with grid-printed protective film on request.

Custom-Color Whiteboard Steel
For buyers requiring colors other than white — such as light grey, cream, or custom RAL references — Everesteel supports custom color options subject to technical review of the dry-erase coating system. Color matching is confirmed against customer-supplied references or RAL codes before production begins.

Grid-Printed Protective Film Variant
Available across surface options. The 2×2 cm printed grid on the protective film serves as a fabrication reference for cutting and framing during board manufacturing. The film is removed before the finished board is delivered to the end user. Particularly useful for manufacturers producing boards in non-standard sizes.
In-House Processing Capabilities
All processing is carried out at Everesteel’s Jiangyin facility by our own production team. Orders can be supplied as full coils or processed to the required format before shipment, reducing handling requirements at the buyer’s facility.
Slitting
Master coils are slit to specified widths to match your board dimensions. Custom narrow widths are available with clean edge finish and tight tolerance control, which helps minimize offcuts in production.
Cut-to-Length
Coils can be cut to sheet format at specified lengths before dispatch. Sheets are stacked, protected with film, and palletized for export — ready for your lamination or framing line.
Protective Film Application
Clear, blue, or grid-printed (2×2 cm) protective film is applied to the writing surface before dispatch. The film protects the surface during transit, handling, and fabrication. Specify film type at time of order.
Tension Leveling
All Whiteboard Steel is tension leveled before dispatch to improve flatness. This is an important quality requirement for framed board fabrication, where bowed or wavy steel can create fit and finish issues.
Accessories Consolidation
Aluminum frames, ABS corners, lamination adhesive, and aluminum pen trays can be supplied in the same shipment, consolidating procurement into a single order and reducing logistics overhead.

FAQs
Q1. What is the minimum order quantity for Whiteboard Steel?
MOQ is 2 tons or 500 sheets per specification. Orders covering multiple specifications — for example, two thicknesses or a combination of High Gloss and Semi Gloss for Projector — are calculated per line item. Contact our sales team to discuss consolidation options for initial trial orders.
Q2. What is the difference between High Gloss and Semi Gloss for Projector?
Both variants use the same 4H dry-erase resin surface on a galvanized steel substrate and offer equivalent dry-erase and magnetic performance. The difference is gloss level. High Gloss (>75 GU) is the standard specification for office boards, school boards, and any board used exclusively for marker writing. Semi Gloss for Projector is engineered with a reduced gloss level to control surface glare and hotspot reflection in rooms where a projector is directed at the same board surface. If your boards will be used in dual-function writing and projection environments, Semi Gloss for Projector is the appropriate specification.
Q3. Can Everesteel supply cut-to-length sheet rather than coil?
Yes. Cut-to-length processing is handled in-house at the Jiangyin facility. Provide your target length and width at inquiry, and the team will confirm feasibility and pricing. Sheets are stacked, film-protected, and palletized for export before dispatch.
Q4. What protective film options are available, and what is the grid-printed film used for?
Three protective film options are available: clear, blue, and grid-printed (2×2 cm grid). The grid-printed film is designed for whiteboard manufacturers who use the grid as a cutting and alignment reference when sizing boards and fitting frames. The film is removed before the finished board reaches the end user. Specify your preferred film type at time of order.
Q5. Is the steel substrate magnetic, and does it require a separate magnetic backing?
The steel substrate provides magnetic receptivity. In most standard whiteboard constructions, no separate magnetic layer or backing is required. This is one of the key material advantages of Whiteboard Steel over melamine and many glass writing surfaces, which typically require an additional magnetic component to provide the same functionality.
Q6. Can Everesteel supply accessories alongside the steel?
Yes. Aluminum frames, ABS corner pieces, adhesive for board lamination, and aluminum pen trays can all be supplied and consolidated into the same shipment. Combining accessories with the steel order reduces logistics complexity and total lead time.
Q7. What documentation is provided with each shipment?
Standard documentation includes a packing list, commercial invoice, bill of lading, and material test report (MTR). Certificate of origin, inspection reports, RoHS-related documentation, and other documents required for customs clearance or L/C compliance are available on request.
